Work for Monday 3.21
For Monday: p. 38 from “Rewriting” (in the “Forwarding” chapter)
"Conversing in Writing
Find a listserv or blog whose topics interest you. Spend a few days following the exchanges on it. Note down those moments at which the members of the list or board really seem to be 'conversing in writing' with each other, and also note points where they seem to be doing something else (forwarding, flaming digressing, whatever). How useful is the metaphor of conversation in describing the exchanges you've observed? What does the metaphor distort or fail to describe?"
Be sure to write a paragraph to turn in answering these questions, and be ready to show and discuss your online discussion in class.
Also, start reading The Kite Runner

Library Session on Wed! OMG.
Library session on Wed room L-304
Controversy in your chosen field:
For example, in education: NCLB, standardized tests, student-teacher relationships.
Google profession + controversy
Keep a running log (or use your blog!) to bring on Wed.
For example:
• Searched google for “nursing + controversial topics”
• Found a list of controversial topics, chose “Restraints and Nursing Homes”
• Searched Restraints and Nursing homes, found http://www.rehabnurse.org/pdf/GeriatricsRestraints.pdf Told me: restraints agitate patients and increase bad behavior
Make sure your topic has 2 sides.
etc. Have a topic TO research on Wed.
Please be prepared.

Your Blog Post #1
Hi, Class!
For your first blog post, I want you to introduce yourself to me as a writer. Please complete this assignment by Monday morning.
How do you feel about writing? Do you consider yourself a writer? Why or why not? Tell me more about your relationship with writing in the past, and how you hope this class helps you become a better writer. Tell me anything else you want me to know, as well, like your favorite color, or how you're obsessed with roller coasters.
For help with things like spelling and grammar, I encourage you to type this blog post into a Microsoft Word Document, and then paste it in the fancy text box provided to you by the wonderful people at blogger.
Be sure you're entering this information on YOUR blog, not mine, and not email.
